| The Reverend Richard Marchand, Rector, Church of the Ascension |
I am a native of Seattle, Washington, and graduated from Whitman College with a degree in German. The next many years were spent in the high-tech industry in California and Washington State, while at the same time I began to discern a call to the Priesthood within the Episcopal Church. I came to New York as a student of General Seminary and began my first parish work as a seminarian at St. Mary the Virgin and Christ and St. Stephen’s, both in Manhattan.
As I neared the end of my studies in 2007, I began a full-time year at St. Luke in the Fields, in the West Village. While there I was ordained a transitional Deacon, and after being called to serve as Associate Priest at Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy in Manhattan in June of 2008, I was ordained Priest in August of that same year and have served St. Matthew and St. Timothy’s since then. Coincidentally, I am the second Associate from St. Matthew and St. Timothy’s to be called to serve Ascension as its Rector! The first was Fr. David Taylor, who served at St. Matthew and St. Timothy under long-term Rector Fr. Jay Gordon. |

| The Rev. Charles H. Howell, Rector, Christ Church New Brighton |
Fr. Chuck was born in 1962 in LaGrange, Illinois, the son of an Episcopal priest, the Rev. Joseph A. Howell, and the late Georgia Howell. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Chuck received an AB degree from the University of Chicago where he majored in the History of Religions and minored in Russian language and literature.
Chuck worked in the Roxbury and Dorchester neighborhoods of Boston as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare. Chuck met his soon-to-be wife, Liz, in Boston and they were married at St. Luke’s and St. Margaret’s on October 1, 1988.
Chuck graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 1995 and accepted a call to Grace Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served Grace Church for 11 years, the last 8 as rector. While at Grace Church, Chuck helped found Sudanese Grace Church, a mission congregation composed mostly of Sudanese refugees, and served as its first vicar. In September 2006, Chuck began his ministry as the tenth rector of Christ Church New Brighton.
Chuck and Liz have a charming young daughter named Georgia and a fierce guard dog named Flopsie (don't let the name fool you).

| The Rev. Frederick W. Schraplau, Rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church |
I
grew up in White Plains, New York where I attended the Congregational
Church, saw the light in college and was confirmed in the
Episcopal Church. My BA degree in biology is from High Point
University. Then after four years in the Air Force, I returned
to White Plains working at the Nestle Company for seven years
and worshipped at Grace Church where I was a warden. While
working I attended the Cathedral Institute of Theology and
General Seminary, moved to Staten Island in 1978 as a seminarian
to work at St. Paul's Church where I was ordained a priest.
My ministry then moved me to the Church of St. Andrew and
St. Mary's Church as a curate and in 2000 I became to rector
of St. Alban's Church. I also served as chaplain to the Canterbury
Club at Wagner College and to the Civil Air Patrol. It is
a joy to have had my entire ministry together with the people
of Staten Island.

| The Rev. Roy A. Cole, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church |
The Reverend Cole is a transplant from the West Coast. Born
in San Diego, California into a Navy family moving regularly
and making new friends was just part of growing up. In 2002,
Fr. Cole made his way to New York and, after completing a Masters
in Sacred Theology at the General Seminary in Chelsea, and his
dissertation for a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco
Theological Seminary, he became the Priest-in-Charge of two
parishes in Yonkers, New York. In the fall of 2008, Fr. Cole
accepted the Call to serve as Rector of St. John’s, Staten
Island.
In addition to the responsibilities associated with any growing,
active parish, Fr. Cole has served as Adjunct Faculty at the
General Seminary in the field of Pastoral Theology and is currently
an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Religion at Hunter College/CUNY
in Manhattan. His love of teaching is undergirded by an even
greater love of learning.
Recently Fr. Cole joined this love of learning and teaching
to another great delight, international travel. As a Missioner
of the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem,
Fr. Cole led a very successful pilgrimage to the Holy Land in
2011 and has another one planned for 2013.
As a part of the vital ministry of St. John’s, Fr.
Cole also has responsibility for Canterbury House, comprising
84 units of affordable housing for seniors that the parish built
in 2000. Through the residents of Canterbury House, the abundance
of lay ministries that exist in the parish, and the dedication
of the many members and friends of St. John’s, Fr. Cole
barely has time to miss the West Coast-- being so richly blessed
by the life and ministry of St. John’s Church and the
Staten Island community. |
